The next big patch for Final Fantasy XIV Online is coming next month, and it’ll add a host of new content to the venerable MMO, continuing the story that kicked off with last year’s Stormblood expansion.
Final Fantasy XIV Online has kept growing with each new patch, and it’s on our list of the best MMORPGs on the PC.
Square Enix say the patch will launch in late May, and it adds new main story quests, a new raids, and updates to jobs, PvP, housing, and the Glamour System. Players will be able to increase their skills in crafting and gathering by completing new Namazu Beast Tribe quests, and there’s a new secret Trial as well.
Here’s the full list of additions, via Square Enix:
- New Main Scenario Quests – The story of Stormblood continues.
- New Alliance Raid – The Ridorana Lighthouse.
- New Trial – It’s a secret!
- New Dungeon – The Swallow’s Compass.
- New Beast Tribe Quests – The Namazu.
- New Sidequests – The Four Lords, Doman Reconstruction and Further Hildibrand Adventures.
- New Deep Dungeon – 100-Floor Heaven-on-High.
- The Forbidden Land, Eureka Expansion – Pagos Expedition.
- New Ultimate Difficulty Raid – Ultima Weapon.
- Updates to jobs, PvP, Glamour System, Housing, Performance Actions, new more powerful gear and more.
Along with the patch, Square Enix is also launching a new companion mobile app for Final Fantasy XIV that will allow players to chat with friends and Free Company members, schedule events, and organise their inventories. There’s also a paid version of the app coming, which will charge a monthly fee and give players double the saddlebag space, allow them to organize saddlebags and retainer inventories, and let them deploy an extra retainer.

Phoenix Mods has released a new texture pack that will definitely interest a number of Final Fantasy XIV players. This 4K texture pack is described as a complete rework of all female texture maps, and has naughty and sharpened details for all the female characters.
According to Phoenix Mods, this version is a redone version of the old 4k maps to include highland female this time. Au Ra scales got a major work over and are way more detailed than ever before. All the old maps have been touched up and all the rough edges smoothed out with the various naughty bits sharpened up as well. Furthermore, the alpha channel for Au Ra maps have had scale blanks added to allow for easy to use tattoo addition or recoloring of scales.

In order to install this texture pack you’ll have to drop these 4K textures into Documents > Textools > Saved > Character > Body. In textools import the Diffuse, Normal and specular for Au Ra female 1 and 101 and Import Diffuse and normal maps on Midlander female and highlander female. And that’s it, you’ll be good to go.
As noted, Textools will probably crash a lot due to each file being 46mb. The new 4K texture maps have already been imported if the resolution in the lower left corner has changed to 2048×4096.
